Before 1965, U.S. dimes, quarters, and half dollars were made from 90% silver. That silver had real, intrinsic value — mined from the earth, finite in supply. A 1964 quarter contained about 0.18 troy ounces of silver. Today, that same quarter is worth several dollars in melt value alone.
This calculator shows what any dollar amount today would have looked like in pre-1965 silver coin face value. It is not an investment tool. It is a reality check — a way to see, plainly, how much purchasing power has been lost since the U.S. removed silver from circulation.
